SMP

SMP stands for Scalp Micropigmentation. It’s a non-surgical cosmetic procedure that uses tiny, layered dots of pigment on the scalp to mimic the appearance of hair follicles. Essentially, it’s like a “tattoo for your scalp” designed to create the illusion of fuller hair or a shaved head.

Density Fill

Instead of creating the illusion of a shaved head (common in male SMP), female SMP is usually designed to add density, reduce the appearance of thinning, and enhance the hairline.

Frequently asked questions

  • SMP is a non-surgical cosmetic treatment that uses micro-needles to deposit pigment into the scalp, creating the appearance of tiny hair follicles. It’s used to replicate a natural-looking shaved head or add density to thinning hair.

  • There are several factors that may make someone an unsuitable candidate for permanent makeup. Please keep in mind that we are not medical professionals. If you have questions about whether your medication or medical condition could affect your ability to get permanent makeup, it’s important to consult your doctor before proceeding.

  • Pre-Care Instructions

Following these steps will help ensure the best possible results and reduce the risk of irritation or poor pigment retention:

    3–5 Days Before Your Appointment

    • Avoid excessive sun exposure or tanning on the scalp to prevent irritation or sunburn.

    • Exfoliate your scalp gently to remove dead skin cells and promote better pigment absorption.

    • Stay well-hydrated and moisturize your scalp daily (avoid doing this the day of treatment).

    24 Hours Before

    • Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and blood thinners (e.g., aspirin, ibuprofen) as these can increase bleeding and sensitivity.

    • Do not get your scalp wet (e.g., swimming or heavy sweating).

    • Get a clean shave or haircut if required (follow your technician’s guidance).

    • Wash your scalp thoroughly using a mild cleanser.

    Day of Appointment:

    • Eat a light meal before your session to help maintain energy.

    • Wear comfortable clothing (sessions may take 2–4 hours).

    • Do not apply any oils, creams, or styling products to your scalp.

  • Proper aftercare is crucial for optimal healing and pigment retention.

    First 3 Days

    • Avoid touching or washing your scalp. Let the area heal naturally.

    • Do not sweat excessively or engage in activities like workouts or sauna use.

    • Avoid sun exposure, shaving, or wearing hats/caps.

    • Do not apply any products (lotions, oils, etc.) unless recommended by your technician.

    Days 4–7

    • You may begin gently rinsing your scalp with lukewarm water only (no shampoo yet).

    • You can now moisturize lightly with a fragrance-free, non-greasy moisturizer (as recommended).

    • Avoid picking or scratching any dry skin or scabs.

    Days 8–14

    • You may resume light exercise, but avoid heavy sweating and prolonged sun exposure.

    • Continue moisturizing daily.

    • Still avoid shaving the area unless advised otherwise.

    Long-Term Care

    • Avoid direct sun exposure — always use sunscreen (SPF 30+) to prevent fading.

    • Avoid chlorinated pools, saunas, and steam rooms for 30 days post-final session.

    • Do not use exfoliating products or harsh chemicals on the scalp.

    • Schedule a touch-up session if needed to keep your SMP looking fresh and consistent.

  • Most clients require 2 to 4 sessions, spaced about 14-30 days apart, depending on your scalp condition, skin type, and desired look.

  • SMP can last for years to come, though results will vary between clients. Some people may need a touch-up every 2–4 years to maintain the intensity, especially if they have oily skin or spend a lot of time in the sun.

  • Discomfort is minimal for most clients. It's often compared to a light scratching sensation.

  • Absolutely. SMP is designed to replicate natural hair follicles and blend seamlessly with your existing hair. The result is very realistic when done by a skilled technician.

  • Yes. SMP is highly effective for camouflaging scars, including FUT/FUE transplant scars, and for clients with various forms of alopecia.

  • The strictest sanitation and safety standards are followed by using only single-use needles and tools. The pigments are very high quality, vegan, cruelty free, and made in the USA.
